Recent research suggests that exposure to blue light before sleep can alter your natural (circadian) rhythm and cause an inability to fall asleep.
The cause is the photoreceptor in your eyes, called Melanopsin. This receiver is sensitive to a narrow band of blue light between 460 and 480 nm. This range can suppress the production of melatonin – a hormone responsible for the health of the sleep-wake cycle.
