Turn your phone into a spectrum analyzer. Speccy is an audio spectrum analysis tool that allows you to visualize the propagation of sound frequencies in the sound spectrum (and inaudible), detected by the microphone of your device. It uses fast Fourier transform signal processing and is the only application on the market that also allows you to export audio data to the clipboard snapshot (to plot in Excel, etc.).
Speccy could also help you to get into a safe with a mechanical combination lock for which you have forgotten the code: With your acoustic device coupled to the trunk dial, turn the wheel slowly, you can “hear” when a tumbler falls in, because the sound spectrum will be very slightly different from that turning a “normal” tick (depending on the build quality of the safe). Using this technique, you can detect when you tap a number and start dialing the other way.
