Golazo! is a throwback to a time when Pro Evolution Soccer and FIFA didn’t just define digital football / soccer games. It came out for Switch, PS4, and Xbox One – I checked the Switch version. At the start of the 21st century, football games were everywhere. The main players ended up being Kick Off and Sensible Soccer, but there was also a host of arcade-inspired (and ported) games – many of them were related to a famous player of the time (like Gary Lineker , John Barnes and ” Gazza ‘). Later in the 90s, football fans had franchises like Sega’s Super Sidekicks and Virtual Striker, but eventually the world settled on PES and FIFA. The game takes you back to an earlier era and is set in 1992. This can be seen in the playstyle, but most notably in a few familiar faces from that era that have been turned into cartoonish versions of themselves so that they can appear as managers in the game.
