Astrolapp visualizes the orbits of the Sun, Moon, planets and zodiac signs in the style of a medieval astrolabe resp. an astronomical clock. In addition, the application displays accurate numeric position data for these celestial bodies for any time and geographic location.
From the surface of the Earth, we perceive the sky as a sphere (the celestial sphere) around us. The upper half-sphere is the visible part of the sky above our horizon, while the lower part is covered by the earth. The stars and bodies in the solar system seem to move on this sphere.
Astrolapp displays the celestial sphere in the same way that someone sitting on the North (or South) pole of that sphere could see it.
